The Artist – Marnie Tenden
Artist Statement
I’m Marnie, and I have been painting with acrylics for over 20 years.
As you have probably concluded, my recent work is both colorful and light. I attribute that to my recent move to Palm Springs from Los Angeles. It opened my eyes to new subject material and colors which have inspired me in the creation of these works. I call the style modern abstract realism – with a touch of whimsy. But if you have a better idea, I’d love to hear it!
About Marnie
Marnie Tenden grew up in upstate New York. She won her first (and last, to date at least) art award in kindergarten for a drawing of children skipping in a circle – one going in the opposite direction. She guesses that that child was herself, because it took her another 50 years to get back into creating art in a serious way. What spurred her to paint?… Moving to Cathedral City in 2018 and experiencing a 110-degree plus summer when it was simply too hot to be outside!
During those decades in between, as an Advertising Executive in New York and Los Angeles, her creativity was a driving force in her success. When she started her own agency in 2008, designing web sites, logos, graphics and brochures, she dove deeper into her creativity. Her last creative enterprise before venturing into “real art” was the creation of Smarty Paws. Inspired by her smart Aussie, her company sells leashes embroidered with things that dogs could say if they could talk, like “Who’s Walking Who?” A percentage of all her sales supports animal rescue organizations. You can find a leash and join the cause at The Smarty Paws.
